  Will the cast participate in marketing? Does the film appeal to communities we can actually reach? Are there organizations or partners who align with the subject? Do we have a festival lane that fits the story? Can we sustain a 12-24 month marketing effort? Are we prepared to spend 20% of the budget on visibility? If these answers are unclear, the project is not ready. Independent filmmaking is undergoing a paradigm shift. The myth of "make it and they will come" is dead. Success is not the result of luck, nor is it solely the result of artistic quality. It is built through sustained visibility, cultural alignment, investor stewardship, cast engagement, community partnerships, niche outreach, and long-term planning. Filmmaking today is ecosystem-building. It is relationship management. It is marketing, communication, partnership, and persistence. The films that break through are not simply the best films-they are the films most committed to the long journey of being seen.
